Isaiah Chapter 60
Rise up in splendor, Jerusalem! Your light has come, the glory of the Lord shines upon you. Nations shall walk by your light, and kings by your shining radiance.
O God of new beginnings and wonderful surprises, thank
you for the gift of a New Year. May it be a time of grace for
us, a time to grow in faith and love, a time to renew our
commitment to following your Son, Jesus. May it be a year
of blessings for us, a time to cherish family and friends, a time to renew our efforts at work, a time to embrace our
faith more fully. Walk with us, in every day and every hour of this New Year, that the light of Christ might shine through us, in spite of our weaknesses and failings.
Merciful God, we remember all who are living with burdens and pains. Be with them when they feel alone or rejected, and touch them with your healing Spirit.
At this time I ask that you pray out loud any short prayers that you may have. For example, Lord be with my aunt Mary who is taking care of my uncle Joe. Or maybe just a name of someone you want to pray for. Just speak as you feel the spirit.
God of light, today you reveal to all people of faith the Word made flesh. Your light is strong, your love is near; draw us to the life where your Spirit shines through us and makes all life complete.
We ask all this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
