O God, we come here to worship today in pure enjoyment just being in your presence.
Your creation is abundant, O God, and so are the mysteries of this earth. Disaster can strike without warning, and its randomness can seem cruel. Be with all who must sort out their lives after fire, flood, storms or other crises. Give us the strength to support them as they grieve and rebuild.
Lord, We celebrate the liberties we enjoy as a nation, and as people who are free to choose our own path in life. Guard us against short-sighted arrogance or preoccupation only with ourselves and those closest to us. Show us true freedom in our connection with all your beloved.
We pray for the suffering, the downtrodden, and the sick especially for those we lift before you now...PAUSE.... that they may know your care and never-failing presence.
Creator of all, we know that there are people in the world who live very differently from the way we do. Other cultures, other circumstances – situations we can scarcely imagine. Show us the ways we can be a blessing to strangers, and open us to the gift that they can be for our lives. Amen.
