Opening Prayer: As we worship today, Let us open our hearts to the coming our Savior, Jesus Christ the Lord! Amen.
Community Prayers:
WL: The arrival of the prophet John means our wait will not be long now. May we rejoice as his parents did when he blessed their lives, and open our ears to the message he has for us all.
Reader 1: With the longest night behind us, we strain to see a glow from the stable, signifying the coming of your light. Give us warmth in our hearts and toward one another, that we might live as the coming Christ child loves us.
Reader 2: As final holiday preparations are made, we take a peaceful moment to reflect again upon your promises, and the hope which has brought us here in the first place. May we carry this peace throughout our week, never overlooking your presence among us.
Reader 3: The world may be on the brink of celebration, but there are still those who suffer on this day: from sickness, sorrow, conflict and other losses. Keep them in your tender embrace, that we would reach out to any and all whom we know are in need, especially… those we name before you now…
WL: Elizabeth and Zechariah followed your guidance even when their neighbors thought they were odd for doing so. Give us their bravery to go forth in the confidence of your will, to do as you have commanded us, despite the reaction of the world around us. Amen.
